Since 1988, Department of Child and Family Studies at the University of South Florida has been a leader in promoting the expansion of the research base essential to improved service systems for children and youth with mental health challenges and their families. Our first national conference, also initiated in 1988, was on system of care research primarily to enhance the capacity of the children’s mental health field to systematically study important issues. This conference has continued each year, bringing together more than 500 researchers, evaluators, policy-makers, administrators, parents, and advocates to share dialogue about important issues such as health, education and welfare, share new knowledge, and identify challenges that remain for the field.

The Trauma-Informed Integrated Healthcare Webinar Series is intended to lay the groundwork of fundamental knowledge about Integrated Health Care and how it relates to trauma, explore the opportunities and obstacles involved in integrating physical health, mental health, and trauma awareness and treatment into one setting, and describe some successful models of this integration as we move towards developing a better understanding of the most effective practices for trauma-informed integrated healthcare.

Healing the Heart from Trauma with Stories, Stillness, and Dancing

There is a mystical (non-scientific) effect of music, dancing, singing, and storytelling that touches, opens, and contributes to the healing of the human heart. These tools are particularly effective when continually offered as salve to the hearts of children and adults that have been abused or violated. This 4 hour experiential and interactive workshop will explore the use of storytelling, stillness and dancing as trauma techniques to support the healing process.
